Bob Drach Announces Candidacy for North Carolina State Auditor as Forward-Aligned Candidate
RALEIGH, NC – Bob Drach, a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), business leader, and seasoned public servant, today officially announced he will be running as a Forward-Aligned candidate for North Carolina State Auditor. Drach brings over three decades of financial leadership and public service experience to this critical role.
Drach’s candidacy comes at a time when the Office of the State Auditor has been rocked by scandal and partisan appointments, necessitating a candidate with the integrity, independence, and qualifications to restore confidence and transparency. As the only accountant running for the position, and independent from both major political parties, Drach is committed to rebuilding trust and ensuring the office focuses on its core mission of combating waste, fraud, and abuse, while delivering superior financial oversight.
“With recent issues in the State Auditor’s Office, we need a leader who is not only technically qualified but also free from political conflicts of interest,” Drach said. “My background in accounting, financial leadership, and public service uniquely positions me to lead the office effectively. It’s time to refocus on the fundamentals: ensuring transparency, eliminating waste, and upholding the highest standards of financial management.”
Drach’s career includes serving in high-level roles such as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Information Officer (CIO), and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in both the private and public sectors. Early in his career, Drach worked with global accounting and consulting giant Deloitte, gaining invaluable experience in tax, audit, and consulting. He also holds an MBA from Stanford University and has served as a dedicated public servant with the U.S. Peace Corps and the New Hanover County Board of Equalization and Review.
As North Carolina’s next State Auditor, Drach plans to bring a fresh, nonpartisan perspective to the office, ensuring that financial oversight is handled with the rigor and independence the people of North Carolina deserve. His forward-aligned platform is focused on creating a more transparent and accountable state government, free from the political gridlock of the past.
